Ode to the BMW R 80 G/S Paris Dakar |

The two letters "G/S" derive from the German language Gelande/ Strasse which translates into Offroad/Street. The Germans call this motorcycles Gummi Kuh (Elastic Cow) for the exclusive behavior of the shaft while accelerating. Calling a beemeer a cow, is similar to the concept of calling a HD a hog or a Ducati a Duck. My special BMWs are all called Frankenbeemers, from the contraction of the two words: Frankenstein and Beemer. Big Bend National Park 02 Tati and Frankenbeemer I

(From left: Gibe with Frankenbeemer 1, Omaruzzo, Mao, and Coppa................Carate Brianza, Milan circa 1990 Prelude: This page is dedicated to the BMW GS, and due to the fact that I own two 80 G/Ss monolever, I will steer the site to this motorcycle in particular and deal with the technical modifications and variety of parts, most often not OEM, that if installed will better the off-road characteristics and performance of such vehicles. Therefore, if you do not own a 2 valves G/S-GS or at least a R model that you intend to modify to ride offroad, or if you belong to the "purist" group, surf somewhere else as you will not find anything interesting in this page! The choice of certain improvements rather than others are the result of either experience or research and the various attempts, by following HPN's lead, to reach our main goal, which is to ride fast on "gelande" with the heavy Kuh! "Carpe Diem" (Latin phrase for enjoy your day)
